Keeping Our Communities Safe This March |
||
|
Another working week gone and months are falling fast. Here is some brief information of what I have done.
You may have seen the message on Facebook, I have been involved in another Operation JOG ON operation and with more things to come: JOG ON | Officers conducted another Jog On operation in Kidderminster Thursday 26 February. Jog On is a campaign focused on tackling perpetrator behaviour on our streets, which often creates barriers to women running. Today’s operation saw another driver who had beeped at our runners stopped and given words of advice to educate them around harassment offences. Jog On sits within our VAWG plan https://orlo.uk/s1Ezf . The campaign is powered through strong partnerships between West Mercia Police, Herefordshire Council, Worcestershire County Council, the University of Worcester, and Active Herefordshire & Worcestershire. Jog On addresses the harassment female runners too often face, including catcalling, intimidation, and assaults. These are not just unwanted behaviours – they are often crimes and we must not minimise the impact of these behaviours and crimes have on women and encourage people to report all incidents to the police. Jog On has two key elements – engagement and enforcement. Colleagues from partner agencies are visiting local communities via established events, running clubs and other campaigns and initiatives which promote women’s safety within sport. We continue to encourage the recognition and reporting of incidents and continue to speak with runners to support them in being active bystanders to these behaviours. Our enforcement aspect involves female police officers in plain clothes in key locations, in line with established operational tactics used identify offences such as shop theft or burglaries. These officers have volunteered to take part and will not be readily identifiable as police officers. When they are subjected to harassment such as catcalling, assault, and sexually suggestive comments, they will call nearby support crews to deal with the perpetrators as appropriate. These operations can take place at any time of day and are designed to be varied and unpredictable. Our message to perpetrators of street-based harassment is this: your actions will not be tolerated. For too long women have changed their behaviours to feel safe, but now the onus to change is on you. Misogynistic remarks and predatory behaviours are not acceptable within our communities. If you experience any form of harassment, please contact West Mercia Police via: • Website https://orlo.uk/OfXl9 • Calling 101. • If you are in immediate danger, always call 999. If you do not wish to speak to police, you can also call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
On 28/02/26 I have been in Worcester City helping keep the public safe during a protest and anti protest. No major issues and everyone involved in the protests, members of the public and officers all went home safe. Minimal disruption to shoppers and traffic. I was also happy it was a nice sunny day to be stood outside. This went so well do to all the hard work of the Police the with engagement prior to the event and during. This included, among others, a lot of your neighbourhood police officers from Kidderminster, Oldington, Foley and Sutton Park, Bewdley and Stourport.
I have been conducting patrols around the Oldington, Foley and Sutton Park throughout the week and with the nice weather, I have been out on the bicycle again. Bring on spring. I hope you have all been able to get out, in some of the nice weather, and got some vitamin D.
Request for information: If you know any names of adults or children using illegal E-Bikes or Scooters then please let us know, this can be done anonymously if you require. I also want details for any running clubs in the area for an upcoming Jog On event. More information will follow as I have it. If you know any runners then please get them to get in touch with me Pc JONES - ofpsp.snt@westmercia.police.uk Or if you have any contact details for organisers of running clubs in Kidderminster, Stourport or Bewdley, please let me know.
Up coming I unfortunately wont be able to make it but the team will be at COSTA, SILVERWOODS WAY, KIDDERMINSTER on 04/03/2026 2pm so please come along for a chat.
